Jay-Z Mash-Ups We Never Want To Hear

Perhaps Jay-Z should think about starting a new "mash-ups" wing over at Jigga Inc. Once again, he's an unwitting participant in an Internet mix, this time being paired with Radiohead on an album called — you guessed it — Jaydiohead.
It's the handiwork of NYC DJ Minty Fresh Beats, and it's currently streaming (and available for download) over at Jaydiohead.com. Pairing songs from Jay's Black Album and American Gangster with tunes from a host of Radiohead albums (OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows), the album includes songs like "99 Anthems," "Dirt Off Your Android" and "Lucifer's Jigsaw."
(Over in the Newsroom, check out the Jay mash-ups we never want to hear.)
Minty Fresh (who, he'd like you to know, is "available for albums, demos, mixtapes, mixing or mastering") premiered the Jaydiohead mash on his MySpace page on December 30, and in the days since, it's quickly spread across file-sharing sites and message boards. Reaction from fans of both Jay and Radiohead has been overwhelmingly positive, with some at 'Head fan site AtEaseWeb.com even going so far as to design covers for the album.
Of course, Jay mash-ups are nothing new. Danger Mouse took Jay's lyrics and paired them with music from the Beatles' White Album, creating the so-called Grey Album that would become an online sensation (and earn the ire of the EMI Music legal team). In subsequent years, Black Album a cappella tracks would also be mashed with a variety of other artists, including Weezer, Pavement, Prince and Metallica.
Just last year, in the wake of the feud between Jay and Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher, a trio of Spanish producers released the OJayZis: Jay-Z vs. Oasis mixtape. Oh, and then there was Viva la Hova, a mash of Jay and songs from Coldplay's Viva la Vida.

Cool stuff....

devorah sperber is a new york city based artist who recreates famous works of art using spools of thread. sperber treats the spools like pixels, recreating the works of da vinci, rembrandt and van gogh in detail. however viewers will not see the work until the move up close because most of her work is created upside down. the reason why the spools hang from the wall backwards is so that when reflected in a mirror or metal sphere, they will appear in the correct size and proportion. the reflection also shrinks the images and blends the spools together to create a more accurate representation of the original works.

I need this in my LIFE!!!

As concepts go, most designs stand on their own merit and need nothing else to exist for them to hopefully one day go into production. Then there are the more rare concept designs that are completely dependent on yet other concepts to be created in order for the first to exist. Got that? So now that we got that out of the way, check out the “DesCom” by Sung-kyu Nam. Completely dependent on the existence of a giant Samsung media centric laptop computer, this desk beautifully and simply integrates the computer (almost) seamlessly into the desktop surface. Looks great when all together, but when the computer is gone you are left with a desk that has the only distinction of having an uneven surface. I love the idea but I think the negative surface created by the absence of the computer needs to be filled in or have another use. What do you think?

EVENTS

THIS SATURDAY JOIN US @ LEVEL ROOM TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE RECENT WEST PHILADELPHIA HOUSE FIRE....

The fire started in the basement of the three-story brick duplex and quickly engulfed the home. 53 firefighters responded to the blaze, according to Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers.
26-year-old Vivian Teah, 24-year-old Eliott Teah, 17-year-old Jennifer Teah, 1-year-old Zyhire Wright-Teah, 8-year-old Ramere Dosso, 6-year-old Mariam Dosso and 54-year-old Henry Gbokoloi died in the fire.
Six of the victims were found huddled together in the basement after intense flames blocked the only exit, according to fire officials.

People who were in the home when the fire started said they believed the person filling the heater accidentally used gasoline as fuel instead of kerosene. Six neighbors were displaced and are being cared for by the Red Cross

This memorial event has been set up to help pay the families involved in this tragic event.

HAPPY NEW YEARS TOO ALL!!!!

With 2008 coming to an end, I want people to comment on how this year went for them. From the highs(visiting 215Partylife.blogspot.com) to the lows. What were some highlights for this year and how did this year compare to others?

Also if you have any new year resolutions, feel free to post them. Everybody is going to have to get on thier grind in 2009 with the recession probably getting worse before it gets better.

215PARTYLIFE list the Top 10 Cash Kings in Hip Hop for 2008

215PARTYLIFE has complied a list of the twenty top earners in Hip Hop and, expectedly, 50 Cent, Jay Z, and Diddy top the list but some may surprise you, such as Chamillionaire and Lil Jon who both seemed to have quiet years. Below is a listing of the Top 20 and excerpts from Forbes.com.

1. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson

$150 million

50 Cent has come a long way from his early days dealing drugs in Queens, N.Y., and getting shot nine times. The reigning king of hip-hop wealth banked $100 million after taxes last summer when his stake in VitaminWater's parent, Glacéau, was bought by Coca-Cola as part of a $4.1 billion deal. His portfolio also includes the popular G-Unit clothing line and record label, plus films, videogames and a slew of platinum albums, including last year's Curtis.

2. Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter

$82 million

Brooklyn, N.Y.-born Jay-Z had a monster year, releasing a second platinum comeback album, American Gangster, inspired by the movie of the same title. In April he signed a $150 million, 10-year recording, touring and merchandising deal with concert promoter Live Nation and days later married his longtime girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles on the roof of his New York City penthouse. Jay-Z also owns a stake in the New Jersey Nets and has advertising deals with Dell and Budweiser.

3. Sean "Diddy" Combs

$35 million

The "Dapper Don" of hip-hop continues his decade-long run of good fortune. He brings in cash from his clothing line Sean John, record label Bad Boy, premium vodka Ciroc and two reality-TV shows. His catalog of hits, both as a producer and a rapper, includes collaborations with the likes of Jay-Z and the Notorious B.I.G., as well as rap anthems such as "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Been Around the World."

4. Kanye West

$30 million

The pink-polo-sporting rapper and producer released his third solo album, Graduation, last September. After handily outselling 50 Cent's Curtis in a head-to-head opening-week matchup, West's album went multiplatinum and won four Grammys. West has penned hits for Jay-Z, Alicia Keys and Diddy, among others. Earlier this month, he headlined the music festival Lollapalooza in his native Chicago.

5. Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley

$22 million

The portly producer has churned out hundreds of tracks for hip-hop's brightest stars, including all four above him on this list. His most popular hits include Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin' " and Ludacris' "Roll Out." More recently, Timbaland has produced pop songs for Björk and Madonna. His second solo album, Shock Value, went platinum after its release in 2007.

6. Pharrell Williams

$20 million

This multifaceted star made his name penning hits for rappers and pop artists alike as part of the production team, the Neptunes. He also fronts the funk-rock band N*E*R*D and is said to be an avid Star Trek fan. A geek with exquisite taste, Williams designs sunglasses for Louis Vuitton and owns apparel lines Ice Cream and Billionaire Boys Club. Esquire named him "the world's best-dressed man" in 2005.

7. Kasseem "Swizz Beatz" Dean

$17 million

The Bronx, N.Y.-born prodigy got his start as a producer at age 16, penning the catchy "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" for DMX. Since then, he's piled up a massive production catalog working with other artists. Last year he released his debut solo album, One Man Band Man. He has appeared in ads for the Gap, owns a stake in trendy toy company Kidrobot and is in talks with Telmex to produce cellphone content.

8. Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus

$16 million

Snoop has parlayed a pimpish image into mainstream fame. Once the embodiment of West Coast gangster rap, he revealed a softer side this year in his reality-TV show, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, where he's been filmed doing yoga and managing family crises. His ninth album, Ego Trippin', came out in March.

9. André "Dr. Dre" Young

$15 million

Dr. Dre hasn't had a hit in years, but he still gets rich on royalties. A founder of seminal rap group N.W.A, he released his multiplatinum solo opus The Chronic in 1992. Dre spent the rest of the 1990s cutting tracks for the likes of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg; this decade he's produced songs for 50 Cent and Eminem. Dre also moonlights as an actor, appearing in Set It Off (1996) and Training Day (2001), to name a few.

10. Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges

$14 million

"The Mouth of the South" is known as much for his raunchy lyrics as for his public spats with Bill O'Reilly and Oprah Winfrey. He's also among rap's most consistent performers--all five of his solo albums have gone platinum. Ludacris has parlayed his musical success into a number of substantial acting roles, including an appearance in Crash, which won the 2005 Oscar for Best Picture.
